Systemic Arterial Hypertension is a multifactorial clinical condition associated with severe outcomes such as stroke and death. One of the main modifiable risk factor for hypertension is an unhealthy diet, often characterized by the consumption of ultraprocessed foods such as sweetened beverages. We aimed to investigate the relationship between the consumption of sweetened beverages, both sugar-sweetened and artificially sweetened, and the prevalence of hypertension in adults. A cross-sectional, household, population-based study with 1,162 adults from two Brazilian cities were carried out. The consumption of food groups and sweetened beverages was obtained by food frequency questionnaire and other data were self-reported. Weight, height, and waist circumference were measured. The association between sweetened beverages consumption and hypertension was analyzed using Poisson regression models, expressed as Prevalence Ratio. The prevalence of hypertension was 16.7%, with no significant difference between genders. The prevalence of consumption of sweetened beverages was 70.3% in men and 54.6% in women, being significantly higher in men. Women who consumed sugar-sweetened and artificially sweetened beverages 6 to 7 days per week had 92% higher prevalence of hypertension compared to those who did not consume or consumed at a lower frequency. Furthermore, women who consumed artificially sweetened beverages at least 1 time per week had 3.36 times higher prevalence of hypertension. The habitual consumption of sweetened beverages may be an important risk factor for hypertension, especially the consumption of diet beverages, which are often marketed as healthier than sugar-sweetened beverages.


La Hipertensión Arterial Sistémica es una condición clínica multifactorial asociada a resultados graves como el ictus y la muerte. Uno de los principales factores de riesgo modificables de la hipertensión es una dieta poco saludable, a menudo caracterizada por el consumo de alimentos ultraprocesados como las bebidas endulzadas. Nuestro objetivo fue investigar la relación entre el consumo de bebidas endulzadas, tanto azucaradas como edulcoradas artificialmente, y la prevalencia de hipertensión en adultos. Se realizó un estudio transversal, domiciliario y poblacional con 1,162 adultos de dos ciudades brasileñas. El consumo de grupos de alimentos y bebidas endulzadas se obtuvo mediante cuestionario de frecuencia de alimentos y los demás datos fueron autoinformados. Se midieron el peso, la talla y el perímetro de la cintura. La asociación entre el consumo de bebidas endulzadas y la hipertensión se analizó mediante modelos de regresión de Poisson, expresados como Ratio de Prevalencia. La prevalencia de hipertensión fue del 16,7%, sin diferencias significativas entre géneros. La prevalencia de consumo de bebidas endulzadas fue del 70,3% en los hombres y del 54,6% en las mujeres, siendo significativamente mayor en los hombres. Las mujeres que consumían bebidas azucaradas y edulcoradas artificialmente entre 6 y 7 días a la semana tenían 92% mayor prevalencia de hipertensión que las que no consumían o consumían con una frecuencia menor. Además, las mujeres que consumían bebidas edulcoradas al menos 1 vez por semana tenían una prevalencia de hipertensión 3,36 veces mayor. Así pues, el consumo habitual de bebidas endulzadas puede ser un importante factor de riesgo de hipertensión, especialmente el consumo de bebidas dietéticas, que a menudo se comercializan como más saludables que las bebidas azucaradas.

The present work evaluated a microwave-assisted wet digestion method using diluted HNO3 with in situ UV radiation for the digestion of starch and skimmed milk powder for further metals determination by spectrometric plasma-based techniques. The sample digestion was conducted using an in situ UV lamp (electrodeless discharge lamp), and the digestion efficiency was improved by employing O2 (20 bar) and 2 mL 30 % H2O2 as auxiliary reagents. The accuracy of the proposed digestion method was evaluated by metals determination (Ca, Cd, Cu, Fe, K, Mg, Mo, Mn, Na, Pb, and Zn) in certificated reference material, which agreed with certified values (Student t-test <0,05). With the use of a UV lamp an environmentally friendly protocol was developed for starch and skimmed milk powder digestion using 0.1 mol L-1 HNO3 with auxiliary reagents (H2O2 or O2). The RCC value ranged from 0.9 to 1.2 % (starch and skimmed milk powder, respectively). The simultaneous cooling approach further improved the digestion efficiency (RCC <0,3 % for both samples), allowing to use milder digestion conditions, or even just water, being environmentally friendly, reducing the waste generation and reagents consumption, allowing food quality control through a greener approach.

RESUMEN

This study presents a comprehensive analysis encompassing the synthesis, structural elucidation, photophysical behavior, and electrochemical properties of a novel series of chalcogen-naphthoquinone-1,2,3-triazole hybrids. Employing a meticulously designed protocol, the synthesis of these hybrids, denoted as 11a-j, was achieved with remarkable efficiency (yielding up to 81%). This synthesis used a regioselective copper-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition reaction (CuAAC). Furthermore, a detailed investigation into the photophysical characteristics, TDDFT calculations, electrochemical profiles, and photobiological attributes of compounds 11a-j was conducted. This exploration aimed to unravel insights into the excited state behaviors of these molecules, as well as their redox properties. Such insights are crucial for future applications of these derivatives in diverse biological assays.

Bioceramic cements used for filling root canals in cases of endo-perio lesion of endodontic origin seem to be promising due to having the potential of promoting faster and more predictable healing of the periapical lesion as they stimulate osteogenesis. An effective treatment plan depends on the precise diagnosis of endo-perio lesions. The origin of an infection, being exclusive to the root canal, from the periodontium, or both, is extremely important for devising the treatment plan. In both cases, no clinical evidence of periodontal disease (bleeding, calculus, etc.) was found; however, primary endodontic lesions with the possibility of drainage through the gingival crevice were present. In addition to the disinfection strategies used during the root canal treatments, the bioceramics Bio C Sealer, Bio C Repair and Bio Root RCS were used to fill in the root canals. Both cases presented an impressive bone gain within 8 months for case 1 and 5 months for case 2. Regarding case 1, in the palatal root canal an apical plug with a bioceramic repair cement was used. Based on the literature studied, it can be concluded that after adequate disinfection of the root canals, using bioceramic cements in filling the root canals shows the potential of supporting capabilities in remineralization of osteolytic lesions in endo-perio diseases.

This work presents the design, synthesis, and MAO-B inhibitor activity of a series of chalcogenyl-2,3-dihydrobenzofurans derivatives. Using solvent- and metal-free methodology, a series of chalcogen-containing dihydrobenzofurans 7-9 was obtained with yields ranging from 40% to 99%, using an I2 /DMSO catalytic system. All compounds were fully structurally characterized using 1 H and 13 C NMR analysis, and the unprecedented compounds were additionally analyzed using high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS). In addition, the mechanistic proposal that iodide is the most likely species to act in the transfer of protons along the reaction path was studied through theoretical calculations. Finally, the compounds 7b-e, 8a-e, and 9a showed great promise as inhibitors against MAO-B activity.

The immunohistochemical (IHC) expression of PD-L1 in cancer models is used as a predictive biomarker of response to immunotherapy. We aimed to evaluate the impact of the usage of 3 different tissue processors in the IHC expression of PD-L1 antibody clones: 22C3 and SP142. Three different topographies of samples (n = 73) were selected at the macroscopy room: 39 uterine leiomyomas, 17 placentas and 17 palatine tonsils. Three fragments were collected from each sample and were inked with a specific color that represented their separate processing in a different tissue processor (A, B or C). During embedding, the 3 fragments with distinct processing were ensemble in the same cassette for sectioning of 3 slides/each: hematoxylin-eosin, 22C3 PDL1 IHC staining and SP142 PD-L1 IHC staining, that were blindly observed by 2 pathologists under digital environment. All but one set of 3 fragments were considered adequate for observation even in the presence of artifacts associated with processing issues that were recorded as high as 50.7 % for processor C. The occurrence of background non-specific staining and the presence of false positive results appear to be unrelated with the PD-L1 clone or the type of tissue processing. 22C3 PD-L1 was more frequently considered adequate for evaluation than SP142 PD-L1 that, in 29.2 % of WSIs (after tissue processor C) were considered not adequate for observation due to lack of the typical pattern of expression. Similarly, the intensity of PD-L1 staining was significantly decreased in fragments processed by C (both PD-L1 clones) in tonsil and placenta specimens, and by A (both clones) in comparison with those processed by B. This study demonstrates the need to standardize the tissue processing in pathology to cope with the growing needs of precision medicine quantifications and the production of high-quality material necessary for computational pathology usage.

The accumulation of amyloid-ß (Aß) is the main event related to Alzheimer's disease (AD) progression. Over the years, several disease-modulating approaches have been reported, but without clinical success. The amyloid cascade hypothesis evolved and proposed essential targets such as tau protein aggregation and modulation of ß-secretase (ß-site amyloid precursor protein cleaving enzyme 1 - BACE-1) and γ-secretase proteases. BACE-1 cuts the amyloid precursor protein (APP) to release the C99 fragment, giving rise to several Aß peptide species during the subsequent γ-secretase cleavage. In this way, BACE-1 has emerged as a clinically validated and attractive target in medicinal chemistry, as it plays a crucial role in the rate of Aß generation. In this review, we report the main results of candidates in clinical trials such as E2609, MK8931, and AZD-3293, in addition to highlighting the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic-related effects of the inhibitors already reported. The current status of developing new peptidomimetic, non-peptidomimetic, naturally occurring, and other class inhibitors are demonstrated, considering their main limitations and lessons learned. The goal is to provide a broad and complete approach to the subject, exploring new chemical classes and perspectives.

The objective of this study was to verify the association between lifestyle habits and obesity in a sample of adults from the "Inquérito de Saúde Domiciliar no Piauí - ISAD-PI" (Home Health Survey in Piauí - ISAD-PI). A cross-sectional population-based household study was performed with a representative sample of 1,163 adults from the cities of Teresina and Picos, Piauí, Brazil who were participants of ISAD-PI. Sociodemographic and lifestyle data were collected utilizing a structured questionnaire adapted from other Brazilian population studies and analyzed using Stata. Most of the population had healthy lifestyle habits, with adequate consumption of fruits/vegetables and beans, as well as a low consumption of soft drinks, sweets, and red meats. Alcohol consumption was more prevalent among overweight individuals. Individuals who had the habit of consuming alcohol and those who consumed beans less than five days a week had a significantly higher prevalence of overweight. A higher prevalence of overweight was significantly associated with weekly frequency of beans consumption and alcohol intake.


El objetivo de este estudio fue verificar la asociación entre los hábitos de vida y la obesidad en adultos en una muestra del Inquérito de Saúde Domiciliar - ISAD (Encuesta de Salud en el Hogar). Estudio transversal de base poblacional y domiciliar, muestra representativa de 1.163 adultos, de los municipios de Teresina y Picos, Piauí, Brasil, de la ISAD-PI. La recopilación de datos sociodemográficos y de estilo de vida se realizó utilizando un cuestionario estructurado adaptado de otros estudios de población brasileños y analizado con Stata. La mayor parte de la población tenía hábitos de vida más saludables, con un consumo adecuado de frutas/verduras y frijoles, así como un bajo consumo de refrescos, dulces y carnes rojas. El consumo de alcohol fue más frecuente entre las personas con sobrepeso. Los individuos que tenían el hábito de consumir alcohol y los que consumían frijoles menos de cinco días a la semana presentaron prevalencias significativamente mayores de sobrepeso. Se observó dada la alta prevalencia de sobrepeso, que mostró asociaciones significativas entre frecuencia semanal de consumo de frijol y consumo de alcohol.

INTRODUCTION: This study aimed to evaluate the influence of bone-anchored maxillary protraction (BAMP) on the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQOL) in subjects with complete unilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP) and moderate-to-severe maxillary deficiency. METHODS: A longitudinal observational study was conducted with a sample of 20 patients (13 males, 7 females) aged 10-14 years (mean age, 11.8 years) with Goslon 3, 4, and 5. To assess the patient's perception of their OHRQOL, the Quality of Life Questionnaire for Orthosurgical Patients was administered in 2 stages: after the installation of the protraction plates (T1) and 18 months after the protraction therapy started (T2). The questionnaire was composed of 4 domains, distributed over 22 questions: social aspects, facial esthetics, oral function, and awareness of facial deformity. RESULTS: The treatment protocol improved the OHRQOL in 75% of the patients who presented UCLP. The domain social aspects of the deformity were the only one that showed a significant difference from T1 to T2 and indicated an improvement in self-esteem. The girls had worse OHRQOL than boys at T1, which was statistically significant only for the domains of social aspects of deformity and awareness of deformity. After BAMP therapy, the effect size indicated a larger change in OHRQOL in girls than in boys. CONCLUSIONS: BAMP therapy positively impacted the OHRQOL and self-esteem of patients with UCLP during adolescence.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to compare the Auditory Middle Latency Response in adults, one group with and another group without altered auditory skills. In addition, the aim was to compare cut-off values of 30% and 50% for the Ear Effect in terms of sensitivity and specificity. Methods: the sample comprised 32 individuals of both genders with no hearing loss who were divided into Group 1 (16 individuals with no alterations in auditory skills) and Group 2 (16 individuals with alterations in auditory skills). All participants received an audiological evaluation and measurement of Brainstem and Auditory Middle Latency Potentials. Results: when Group 1 and Group 2 were compared, a statistically significant difference was only observed in Na and Pa amplitude of waves A1C3 and A2C3. In the analysis of sensitivity and specificity of the Auditory Middle Latency Response, a cut-off value of 50% gave a better balance between sensitivity and specificity. Conclusion: adults presented with altered auditory abilities had smaller response amplitudes in the Na and Pa components of the waves generated in the left hemisphere. A cut-off value of 50% gave a better discrimination of the Ear Effect for identifying subjects with altered auditory skills.


RESUMO Objetivo: comparar a latência e a amplitude dos componentes Na, Pa, Nb e Pb do Potencial Evocado Auditivo de Média Latência em adultos com e sem alterações em habilidades auditivas, bem como analisar a sensibilidade e a especificidade dos valores de corte de 30% e 50% para o Efeito de Orelha. Métodos: compuseram a amostra 32 indivíduos de ambos os sexos e sem perda auditiva, sendo subdivididos em Grupo 1 (16 indivíduos sem alterações em habilidades auditivas) e Grupo 2 (16 indivíduos com alterações em habilidades auditivas). Todos os participantes foram submetidos a uma avaliação audiológica e aos Potenciais Evocados Auditivos de Tronco Encefálico de Média Latência. O teste ANOVA foi utilizado na análise dos dados, considerando significantes os valores de p menores ou iguais a 0,05. Resultados: foi observada diferença estatisticamente significante apenas na amplitude de Na e Pa, quando Grupo 1 e Grupo 2 foram comparados. Esta diferença foi observada nas ondas A1C3 e A2C3. Na análise de sensibilidade e especificidade do Potencial Evocado Auditivo de Média Latência, observou-se que o valor de corte de 50% apresentou um melhor equilíbrio entre os critérios de sensibilidade e especificidade. Conclusão: os indivíduos adultos com alterações nas habilidades auditivas apresentaram menor amplitude de resposta nos componentes Na e Pa das ondas geradas no hemisfério esquerdo. O valor de corte de 50% apresentou um melhor equilíbrio na análise do Efeito de Orelha para a contribuição no diagnóstico de alterações de habilidades auditivas.

Chagas Disease is caused by the protozoan Trypanosoma cruzi and is considered a tropical neglected disease by the World Health Organization (WHO). The main drugs used in the therapy of the disease are obsolete and, as a result, it still kills millions of people every year. Therefore, the development of new drugs is urgent, as is the research reported in this article, in which new triazole selenides were synthesized through a simple methodology and to evaluate their potential against T. cruzi, through a combination of in vitro and in silico assays. With the combination of two molecular scaffolds already known for this activity, sixteen new hybrid compounds were obtained, showing yields ranging from 40 to 90%, and their biological potentials were tested. Two of the evaluated hybrids showed potent trypanocidal activity (11m and 11n), comparable to the positive control benznidazole. Density functional theory (DFT) studies were correlated with cyclic voltammetry assays to investigate the LUMO energy, which demonstrated a correlation with the observed trypanocidal activity. These results are promising, considering 11m and 11n as hit compounds in the development of new antichagasic drugs.

RESUMEN

The purpose of this article is to describe the activities and during the experience lived in the teaching internship the covid-19 pandemic. This is a descriptive study of the type of experience experienced in the teaching internship during the covid-19 crisis. The study was carried out during two academic semesters in the discipline of Nutritional Assessment in the Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition at a public university in Northeast Brazil. An adaptation of the face-to-face classes was made using tools (Google Meet, point online, Metimeter and Kahoot) and asynchronous (WhatsApp and SIGAA) tools, in addition to the Google Forms form for the evaluations. Despite the context, the teaching stage of the current pandemic teaching was carried out successfully and with an edifying learning of practice in Higher Education. The experience can share experiences and experiences with other trainee teachers, monitors and guiding teachers and the search for new methodologies and tools that help the teaching-learning process.


El objetivo de este artículo es describir las actividades desarrolladas y la experiencia vivida en la pasantía docente durante la pandemia del covid-19. Se trata de un estudio descriptivo del tipo relato de experiencia vivida en las prácticas docentes durante la crisis del covid-19. El estudio se llevó a cabo durante dos semestres académicos en la disciplina de Evaluación Nutricional en la Licenciatura en Nutrición de una universidad pública del Nordeste de Brasil. Se realizó una adaptación de las clases presenciales utilizando herramientas síncronas (Google Meet, Power point online, Metimeter y Kahoot) y asíncronas (WhatsApp y SIGAA), además del formulario Google Forms para las actividades de evaluación. A pesar del actual contexto de pandemia, la pasantía docente reportada en este artículo se llevó a cabo con éxito y con un edificante aprendizaje de la práctica docente en la Educación Superior. La experiencia permitió compartir conocimientos teóricos y experiencias con los estudiantes de grado y con otros docentes en formación, monitores y docentes tutores y la búsqueda de nuevas metodologías y herramientas que ayudaran al proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje.

Trata-se de um estudo descritivo do tipo relato de experiência vivenciado no estágio docente durante a crise da covid-19. O estudo foi realizado durante dois semestres letivos na disciplina de Avaliação Nutricional no curso de Bacharelado em Nutrição de uma universidade pública do Nordeste brasileiro. Foi feita uma adaptação das aulas presenciais com uso de ferramentas síncronas (Google Meet, Power point online, Metimeter e Kahoot) e assíncronas (WhatsApp e SIGAA), além do formulário do Google Forms para as atividades avaliativas. Apesar do contexto atual de pandemia, o estágio em docência relatado neste artigo foi realizado com êxito e com uma aprendizagem edificante da prática docente no Ensino Superior. A experiência possibilitou compartilhar conhecimentos teórico e experiências com os graduandos e com os demais estagiários docentes, monitores e professora orientadora e a busca de novas metodologias e ferramentas que auxiliassem o processo de ensino-aprendizagem.

The present study investigates the use of UV light and the ozone process for doxorubicin, daunorubicin, epirubicin, and irinotecan degradation. The process was carried out using different pH values in hospital wastewater. The use of UV radiation reduces the concentration of anticancer drugs, but in all cases, this technology was not able enough to remove on the whole these contaminants from hospital wastewater. The best condition was achieved when using pH 9 for most of the analytes. Doxorubicin, daunorubicin, and epirubicin were degraded at 97.3%, 88.3%, and 99.0%, respectively. Irinotecan showed the lowest degradation, just 55.6%; a slightly higher degradation (63.8%) was obtained when pH 5 was used. Complete removal of doxorubicin, daunorubicin, epirubicin, and irinotecan was achieved when ozone treatment was used for all the pH studied. The results indicated that UV light and the ozone process can be used as a tertiary treatment to reduce the concentration of anticancer drugs in the effluents. Ozonation, therefore, proved to be more efficient than the photolysis process, when considering the percentual degradation of the original compounds in shorter timespans.

Organoselenium compounds have been successfully applied in biological, medicinal and material sciences, as well as a powerful tool for modern organic synthesis, attracting the attention of the scientific community. This great success is mainly due to the breaking of paradigm demonstrated by innumerous works, that the selenium compounds were toxic and would have a potential impact on the environment. In this update review, we highlight the relevance of these compounds in several fields of research as well as the possibility to synthesize them through more environmentally sustainable methodologies, involving catalytic processes, flow chemistry, electrosynthesis, as well as by the use of alternative energy sources, including mechanochemical, photochemistry, sonochemical and microwave irradiation.

Introdução: O Sistema Contralateral Routing of Signal (CROS) é uma opção de intervenção auditiva com propósito de melhorar a percepção monoaural e minimizar as dificuldades da perda auditiva unilateral. Objetivo: analisar e descrever o público-alvo, o tempo de adaptação, o controle de uso do Sistema CROS, as avaliações utilizadas para medir os seus benefícios, sua efetividade e limitações. Método: Este estudo foi conduzido de acordo com as diretrizes PRISMA. A pesquisa bibliográfica foi realizada através dos bancos de dados científicos online na área da saúde, PubMed e Scopus, foram utilizadas as palavras-chave "Unilateral hearing loss", "Hearing aid", "CROS" e "Contralateral Routing of Signal". Os resultados da pesquisa limitaram-se a artigos científicos experimentais, que abordavam diretamente o sistema CROS, publicados em inglês, português ou espanhol. Resultados: Onze artigos foram selecionados para a revisão do texto completo. Quanto aos usuários do CROS, a faixa etária variou entre nove a 84 anos; prevalência do sexo masculino. Observou-se grande diversidade nas avaliações, sendo realizadas com tempo de uso inferior a 30 dias e superior a seis meses, após adaptação do CROS. Tal avaliação era realizada por meio de questionários não padronizados e avaliações objetivas com estímulos controlados. O uso do CROS proporcionou benefícios na localização sonora, efeito sombra da cabeça e inteligibilidade de fala, porém não mostrou eficácia em situações ruidosas. Conclusão: Por ser um dispositivo, não invasivo, de fácil adaptação e manuseio que traz benefícios imediatos, o CROS deve ser a primeira opção na reabilitação da perda auditiva unilateral.

Objetivo: analizar y describir el público objetivo, el tiempo de adaptación, el control del uso del Sistema CROS, las evaluaciones utilizadas para medir sus beneficios, su efectividad y limitaciones. Metodo: Este estudio se realizó de acuerdo con las pautas PRISMA. La búsqueda bibliográfica se realizó a través de bases de datos científicas online del área de salud, PubMed y Scopus, utilizando las palabras clave "Unilateral hearing loss", "Hearing aid", "CROS" y "Contralateral Routing of Signal". Los resultados de la investigación se limitaron a artículos científicos experimentales, que abordaron directamente el sistema CROS, publicados en inglés, portugués o español. Resultados: Se seleccionaron once artículos para revisión de texto completo. En cuanto a los usuarios de CROS, la edad osciló entre los nueve y los 84 años; prevalencia masculina. Hub gran diversidad en las evaluaciones, realizadas con tiempos de uso de menos de 30 días y más de seis meses tras la adaptación del CROS. Dicha evaluación se realizó mediante cuestionarios no estandarizados y evaluaciones objetivas con estímulos controlados. El uso de CROS proporcionó beneficios en la localización del sonido, el efecto de sombra de la cabeza y la inteligibilidad del habla, pero no fue efectivo en situaciones ruidosas. Conclusión: Al tratarse de un dispositivo no invasivo, de fácil adaptación y manejo que aporta beneficios inmediatos, CROS debería ser la primera opción en la rehabilitación de la hipoacusia unilateral.


Introduction: The system Contralateral Routing of Signal (CROS) is an option of auditory intervention in order to improve the monaural perception and minimize the difficulties of unilateral hearing loss. Objective: to analyze and describe the target users, the adaptation time and the control use of CROS system, the evaluations utilized to measure its benefits, as well as its effectiveness and limitations. Method: This study was conducted according to the PRISMA guidelines. The bibliographic research was through the scientific data online banks in the health area, PubMed and Scopus, using the keywords "Unilateral hearing loss", "Hearing aid", "CROS" and "Contralateral Routing of Signal". The results of the research were limited to experimental scientific articles, which address directly the CROS system, published in English, Portuguese or Spanish. Results: Eleven studies were selected to review. The age of CROS users ranged from nine to 84 years and male sex prevalence. There was great diversity in the evaluations being carried out. The performance's evaluation date varied between less than 30 days and more than six months after the adaptation. Such assessments were performed using non-standardized questionnaires and objective evaluations with controlled stimuli. The use of CROS provides benefits in sound localization, head shadow effect and speech intelligibility, but it is not effective in noisy situations. Conclusion: CROS should be the first option in unilateral hearing loss rehabilitation for being a non-invasive, easy adaption, handling dispositive and with good benefits to the client.

Objetivou-se analisar conhecimentos e práticas de formandos em Odontologia sobre educação em saúde requeridas ao Sistema Único de Saúdealém de caracterizar o perfil sociodemográfico desses graduandos e identificar suas perspectivas de exercício profissional. Foi realizado estudo descritivo com amostra de60 alunos daUniversidade Federal de Pernambuco, do último período, em 2020. Utilizou-se questionário semiestruturado e de formato onlinena plataforma GoogleForms. Participaram 49 alunos (81,6%). A maioria desejaatuar como especialista (53,1%). Menos da metade (46,9%) afirmou conhecer os objetivos formativos do curso, mas 87,8% consideraramque os conteúdos de educação em saúde são mais desenvolvidos em disciplinas do eixo formativo 1 -saúde, formação humanística e social e no 3 -saúde e ciências odontológicas (65,3%). Predominaram o entendimento de educação em saúde relacionado à promoção e prevenção de doenças (57,1%) e como ato de transmitir/informar/orientar (46,9%), estratégias pedagógicas para ações/práticas educativas das disciplinas transmissivas (91,8%) e a preferência de utilização de recursos educativos para palestras (59,1%).Sobre os objetivos da educação em saúde, conscientizar as pessoas sobre a importância da saúde/bucal (93,9%) e capacitar para autonomia (73,5%) foram respostas prevalentes. A maioria, considerou como estratégias educativas voltadas à atenção básica à saúde as de autocuidado (71,4%,), instrução/prevenção de doenças bucais (65,3%) e baseadas na transdisciplinaridade (57,1%). Incorporar a educação em saúde no trabalho profissional foi considerada muito importante (89,8%). Conclui-se persistir entendimento de educação em saúde fortemente ligado ao conceito positivista de caráter transmissivo, mas compreensão ampliada de caráter participativo e popular formam observadas (AU).


The aimwas to analyze the knowledge and practices of dentistry undergraduates on health education required by the Unified Health System, in addition to characterizethe sociodemographic profile of these undergraduatestudentsand identify their perspectives for professional practice. A descriptive study was carried out with a sample of 60 students enrolled inthe last periodof2020at the Federal University of Pernambuco. A semi-structured questionnaire was used in an online format on the GoogleForms platformand49 students (81.6%) participatedin the study. Most students want to work as a specialist (53.1%). Less than half (46.9%) claimed to know the training objectives of the course, but 87.8% considered that the health education contents are more developed in subjects of training axes 1 -health, humanistic and social training and 3 -health and dental sciences (65.3%). The understanding of health education related to the promotion and prevention of diseases predominated (57.1%) and as an act of transmitting/informing/guiding (46.9%), pedagogical strategies for educational actions/practices of transmissive disciplines (91.8 %) and the preference ofusingeducational resources for lectures (59.1%). Regarding the aimsof health education, making peopleaware of the importance of oral health (93.9%) and training for autonomy (73.5%) were prevalent responses. The majority considered self-care (71.4%), instruction/prevention of oral diseases (65.3%) and those based on transdisciplinarity (57.1%) as educational strategies aimed at primary health care. Incorporating health education into professional work was considered very important (89.8%). It wasconcluded that the understanding of health education is strongly linked to the positivist concept of a transmissive character,but expanded understanding of a participatory and popular character wasobserved (AU).

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of orthodontic treatment on the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) of patients with cleft lip and palate. SEARCH METHODS: Electronic searches were conducted in Pubmed, Scopus, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, VHL, and OpenGrey databases, completed in January 2021. SELECTION CRITERIA: Cross-sectional and longitudinal observational studies that presented an assessment of OHRQoL in cleft patients undergoing orthodontic treatment were included, according to PRISMA guidelines. Contacts via email were made with authors, to clarify inaccuracies or request additional data. DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS: The entire process was accomplished by two authors, in case of disagreement, a third author mediated the discussion until there was a consensus. Risk assessment was performed by the Fowkes and Fulton qualifier, and the quality of evidence, assessed by the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) tool. A meta-analysis was performed considering the domains combined into three large groups (physical, psychological, and social). The questionnaires were standardized as to the scores and their direction. RESULTS: A total of 3822 studies were retrieved. After excluding duplicates, the titles and abstracts of the remaining articles were analysed. Twenty-eight articles were read in full; 13 met the eligibility criteria; 12 articles showed sufficient methodological quality and 7 were included in the quantitative assessment. The included studies were published between 2011 and 2019. The samples comprised 19 to 183 patients of both sexes. GRADE showed low evidence when compared to the control group, sexes, age, and types of cleft and very low evidence among longitudinal articles. CONCLUSIONS: The OHRQoL is lower in orthodontic patients with cleft than in those without. The OHRQoL of patients with cleft undergoing orthodontic treatment is not influenced by gender or age group, considering children and adolescents, but it is influenced by the type of cleft. The OHRQoL of patients with CLP does not undergo significant changes during orthodontic treatment. LIMITATIONS: The variety of instruments for measuring OHRQoL rendered meta-analysis difficult. ABSTRACT Purpose: to compare the latency and amplitude of the Frequency-Following Response and the Auditory Middle Latency Response in typical individuals and those with altered auditory abilities, as well as to investigate the sensitivity and specificity of both assessments in relation to central auditory processing. Methods: 32 individuals of both sexes were distributed into Group 1 (without altered auditory abilities) and Group 2 (with altered auditory abilities). The groups were divided according to behavioral tests of central auditory processing. Individuals in both groups underwent auditory evoked potentials. Student's t-test was used for analysis, considering a 5% significance. Results: in Group 2, V and A had higher latency and lower amplitude and slope. Group 2 also had lower Na and Pa amplitudes in waves A1C3 and A2C3. The Frequency-Following Response showed 93% sensitivity and specificity, while the Auditory Middle Latency Response showed 87% sensitivity and 93% specificity. Conclusion: the individuals presented with altered hearing abilities showed higher latency and lower response amplitude in the Frequency Following Response and Auditory Middle Latency Response compared to typical individuals. The Frequency- Following Response showed a better balance of sensitivity and specificity.


RESUMO Objetivo: comparar a latência e a amplitude do Frequency-Following Response e do Potencial Evocado Auditivo de Média Latência em indivíduos típicos e com alterações das habilidades auditivas, assim como investigar a sensibilidade e especificidade de ambas as avaliações frente ao processamento auditivo central. Métodos: 32 indivíduos de ambos os sexos foram distribuídos em Grupo 1 (sem alterações de habilidades auditivas) e Grupo 2 (com alteração em habilidades auditivas). Os grupos foram divididos de acordo com testes comportamentais do processamento auditivo central. Os indivíduos de ambos os grupos foram submetidos aos potenciais evocados auditivos. O teste T de Student foi utilizado para a análise, considerando 5% de significância. Resultados: no Grupo 2, V e A apresentaram maior latência e menor amplitude e slope. O Grupo 2 também apresentou menores amplitudes de Na e Pa nas ondas A1C3 e A2C3. O Frequency-Following Response apresentou 93% de sensibilidade e especificidade, enquanto o Potencial Evocado Auditivo de Média Latência apresentou 87% de sensibilidade e 93% de especificidade. Conclusão: os indivíduos com alteração das habilidades auditivas apresentaram maior latência e menor amplitude de resposta no Frequency Following Response e Potencial Evocado Auditivo de Média Latência em relação aos indivíduos típicos. O Frequency-Following Response apresentou melhor equilíbrio de sensibilidade e especificidade.

PURPOSE: Studies evaluating different features of cold plasma action on dentin surface characteristics are lacking. Thus, this in vitro study aimed to determine the effect of cold plasma under different protocols of exposure time, distance to plasma source, and the association of argon gas with distinct concentrations of oxygen on the wettability, surface energy, total free interaction energy, surface roughness, morphology and chemical composition of dentin. MATERIAL AND METHODS: One hundred and twenty-five bovine dentin samples were used and divided into twenty-five groups according to the exposure time to plasma (15, 30, or 60 s); distance between plasma source and dentin surface (3 or 6 mm); argon gas without plasma generation; and plasma generated by argon gas and association of argon gas with distinct concentrations of oxygen (2 % or 3 %) (n = 5). Contact angle (θ), surface energy (γs) and total free interaction energy (ΔG) were measured using a goniometer (Krüss), while surface roughness (Ra) was evaluated by a profilometer (Mitutoyo). Representative samples were submitted to scanning electron microscopy (JEOL) to ilustrate the morphology and chemical composition of dentin. Data comparing control group with all experimental groups were submitted to ANOVA followed by Tukey's test (α = .05). Data comparing oxygen gas action at different concentrations and argon gas on dentin characteristics were submitted to non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis test, followed by Dunn test for comparison between the groups and methods (α = 0.05). RESULTS: In general, argon gas without plasma generation promoted no significant difference on dentin surface characteristics compared to control group (P > .05), differently for the cold plasma that significantly reduced contact angle values and increased total free interaction energy of dentin surface (P < .05). Overall, feeding of oxygen at distinct concentrations promoted significant difference on dentin surface characteristics compared to control group (P < .05). Exposure time and distance protocols interfered with contact angle, surface energy and total free interaction energy analyses for each gas. There was no significant difference on surface roughness (P > .05), morphology and chemical composition of dentin submitted to argon gas, cold plasma, and distinct concentrations of oxygen. CONCLUSION: In conclusion, plasma generated by argon gas and its feeding with 2 % and 3 % oxygen gas improved the dentin surface characteristics about wettability, surface energy and total free interaction energy. Such treatments preserved the surface roughness, morphology and chemical composition of dentin. The protocols of groups Ar-6mm-15sec, ArO2-3mm-30sec and ArO3-3mm-15sec are recommended for improvement of dentin surface characteristics.
